Norma purchases the Seafairer Motel in the town of White Pine Bay and renames it Bates Motel with hopes of starting afresh. The plot follows the life of the mother-son duo after they move from Arizona to Oregon, following the death of Norma’s husband. In the final season, Rihanna donned the iconic role of Marion Crane from the original movie. Nicola Peltz plays the part of Norman’s love interest, Bradley Martin, and Kenny Johnson appears as Norma’s brother Caleb Calhoun. Nestor Carbonell is also part of the main cast as Sheriff Romero. Max Thieriot features as Dylan Massett, the older son of Norma, and Olivia Cooke portrays Emma Decody, Norman’s intelligent classmate and best friend who suffers from Cystic Fibrosis. Vera Farmiga enacts the character of his mother Norma Bates.
The show stars Freddie Highmore, who played the role of Peter Llewelyn Davies in ‘Finding Neverland’, as Norman Bates.

The spectacular performances of the protagonists and some high quality film-making led the series to be nominated for the Primetime Emmy Awards, Saturn Awards, and People’s Choice Awards. The series was renewed on Jfor a fourth and fifth season, making it the longest-running original scripted drama series in A&E’s records. Gregg Edwards is revealed to have gone missing a year and a half prior to the start of the fifth season and it is implied that Norman killed him since he was seen reading a newspaper that bore a headline mentioning that citizens had raised concerns over Pineview's security and "Mother" had warned him during his stay in Pineview in the fourth season that he should not be revealing so much about his past in their therapy sessions. Theresa Reyas committed suicide 22 years prior to the start of the third season. A rabid dog was shot by Caleb when it attacked Gunner's dog, Rex, in the episode The Arcanum Club. Cat's husband died in a car accident sometime prior to the episode Caleb. Kyle killed his ex-girlfriend Carly Walters before the beginning of the second season. Three of Kyle Miller's customers were killed by tainted drugs that he sold to them before the second season. Juno the dog was run over with a car by an unnamed man in the episode The Man in Number 9. Li-Mui was accidentally killed by a drug overdose given by an unknown man and her body was buried near a cabin by fellow sex slaves, including Jiao, prior to the beginning of the series. Ray Calhoun, Norma's father, passed away prior to the beginning of the series. Animals that have died over the series are also listed here as well.
